Millipedes belong to Diplopoda, named after “thousand feet.” But in fact, they seldom have more than 750 pairs of legs. Their biggest distinction from centipedes is that they have two pairs of legs on each segment but centipedes have only one. Millipedes are not carnivorous, feeding mainly on rotten organic ingredients and fungi. Their probability of appearance in amber fossils is low. There are mostly little ones less than 1 cm in length. When threatened, they will coil their body like a disc for self defense. Such a coiled posture can be found from many millipede fossils in amber.
